You’re not just buying dinner — retailers are watching your every move, from your purchases to your location.

💸 Fortnite refund: The FTC is giving you another shot to claim part of a $245 million settlement over shady in-app purchases. You’re eligible if you played between January 2017 and September 2022 and were charged for items you didn’t want, got locked out after a charge dispute, or if your kid made purchases without you knowing. Submit your claim by July 9.

$245 million

Epic Games’ major settlement for Fortnite players. The FTC says a confusing button layout tricked players into making accidental purchases. They’ve already sent 600,000 payments totaling $72 million. You have until Jan. 10 to file a claim.

🎮 Set Fortnite parental controls: Worried your kid’s spending too much time (or money) on Fortnite? They are. Log in to their account at the Epic Games portal. Go to Parental Controls and set a PIN. From there, you can limit playtime, control who they chat with and require the PIN before any in-game purchases are made.

🛒 Attention shoppers: It might be worth signing up for the Amazon Visa. You get 3% back on Amazon purchases and lots more. Plus, there’s a bunch of travel perks and a $150 gift card if you’re approved. My rule of thumb: Only use it if you can pay it off in full each month.

One app to rule them all: Amazon never wants you to leave their app. That’s why they’re testing a “Buy for Me” button that lets you shop other sites within their app. It uses AI to handle checkout securely. Amazon says they won’t take a cut of the purchases, but let’s be real, this undercuts their competition.

Ding-ding-ding! Sign up for text and email alerts from your bank. I do, and, yes, it’s a bit annoying to approve purchases I’ve made, but it’s also notified me a few times someone got their hands on my card. In your banking app, go into Settings and look for Alerts or Notifications.

✈️ Aisle be waiting at the airport: You can now pay for a JetBlue flight using Venmo. They’re the first airline to offer it, and I bet others will follow. Why the change? JetBlue’s in the red, reporting hundreds of millions in losses. Reminder, if you’re booking secret travel, all your purchases on Venmo are public unless you take these steps.

75% drop-off

In Apple Vision Pro purchases by August. Uh-oh. Anyone willing to shell out $3,500 probably already has. Apple’s best hope for a comeback is a cheaper model in 2025. Even at half the original cost, it’ll still be one of the priciest VR headsets out there.
